The excursion begins at Akahanga, an important ceremonial site where several moai remain lying exactly where they were abandoned centuries ago during transportation. These silent monuments provide valuable insight into the island’s remarkable past and the engineering achievements of its early inhabitants. Continue to Rano Raraku, the volcanic quarry where nearly all of Easter Island’s moai were carved. Scattered across the slopes and around the crater are hundreds of statues in various stages of completion, creating one of the most impressive archaeological landscapes in Polynesia. Surrounded by volcanic scenery and sweeping ocean views, this extraordinary site offers a deeper understanding of the craftsmanship and spiritual significance behind these monumental figures. The journey proceeds to Ahu Tongariki, the island’s largest ceremonial platform and home to fifteen majestic restored moai overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Beautifully reconstructed following the devastating tsunami of 1960, Tongariki stands today as one of Easter Island’s most iconic landmarks and a powerful symbol of Rapa Nui culture. The experience concludes at Anakena Beach, a beautiful bay of white coral sand framed by palm trees and crystal-clear waters. Rising 310 metres above sea level, its vast crater shelters a freshwater lagoon and a unique ecosystem, creating one of the island’s most spectacular natural settings. Perched dramatically on the crater’s edge lies Orongo, the island’s most important ceremonial village and the centre of the famous Birdman Cult. This remarkable site preserves an extraordinary collection of petroglyphs depicting Tangata Manu (the Birdman), the creator deity Make Make, and symbols associated with fertility and spiritual beliefs. Combined with the breathtaking views over the Pacific Ocean and the surrounding volcanic landscape, Orongo offers one of the most memorable cultural experiences on the island.

In the afternoon, continue exploring Easter Island’s fascinating archaeological heritage with a visit to Ahu Akivi. Located in the centre of the island, this ceremonial platform is unique for its seven moai, which according to local tradition represent the first explorers sent by King Hotu Matu’a to discover and settle the island. The excursion continues to Puna Pau, a small volcanic crater where the distinctive red scoria used to carve the pukao, or ceremonial topknots of the moai, was extracted. Along the route, several unfinished pukao can still be observed resting beside the ancient transportation paths, offering a rare glimpse into the construction process behind these extraordinary monuments.
