Arica – Putre

4 days – 3 nights

A Road Trip Adventure Through Northern Chile

Between the Pacific Ocean and the majestic peaks of the Andean highlands, northern Chile reveals two must-see gems: Arica and Putre. Known as the “City of Eternal Spring,” Arica captivates visitors with its pleasant climate, warm sandy beaches, and sunsets that invite quiet contemplation. It is an ideal gateway to a region rich in natural and cultural contrasts. A few hours inland, Putre emerges as a traditional Andean village steeped in history. With around 300 houses, it offers an authentic atmosphere and a peaceful setting from which to explore the surrounding wonders. It is the perfect starting point for discovering the Lauca Biosphere Reserve, with easy access to the high-altitude landscapes of the Andean plateau, where volcanoes, turquoise lagoons, and vast plains inhabited by vicuñas and alpacas create a truly remarkable setting. Putre also fascinates visitors with its rich heritage: ancestral agricultural terraces, cobblestone alleyways, a historic church, and houses with intricately carved doors that reflect long-preserved traditions. Local cuisine adds another distinctive touch, featuring traditional dishes made with high-altitude ingredients such as camelid meat, quinoa, Andean trout, regional oregano, chuño (freeze-dried potatoes), and llaita, a distinctive freshwater alga native to the region.
