FD Excursion: Altiplanic Lagoons & Salar de Atacama

Breakfast at the hotel. Today’s excursion explores the remarkable high-altitude landscapes of the Atacama Desert, combining spectacular scenery, unique wildlife, and traditional Andean culture. The journey begins at the Salar de Atacama, the largest salt flat in Chile and one of the most important ecological reserves in the region. Here, visit Laguna Chaxa, a beautiful lagoon located within the Los Flamencos National Reserve, where three species of flamingos can often be observed against the striking backdrop of the Andes. Continue to the picturesque village of Toconao, renowned for its traditional architecture constructed from volcanic stone and its distinctive bell tower, one of the most recognisable landmarks in the region. The excursion then proceeds to Socaire, a small Andean settlement that preserves centuries-old traditions and offers magnificent views of the surrounding volcanoes. The highlight of the day is a visit to the stunning Miscanti and Miñiques Lagoons, located at an altitude of approximately 4,500 metres above sea level. Surrounded by imposing volcanic peaks and vast high-altitude landscapes, these pristine lagoons form part of the Los Flamencos National Reserve and are among the most spectacular natural attractions in northern Chile. FD Excursion: El Tatio Geysers & Machuca Valley

Depart early in the morning before sunrise for one of the most remarkable natural attractions in Chile: the El Tatio Geysers, one of the highest geothermal fields in the world.
Upon arrival, breakfast is served amidst the geothermal landscape before a guided walk through the geyser field. At dawn, the contrast between the freezing morning temperatures and the geothermal activity creates impressive columns of steam rising dramatically into the clear desert sky, offering one of the most memorable spectacles in the Atacama Desert. There is time to explore the area and appreciate its unique geological features before beginning the return journey to San Pedro de Atacama. Along the route, enjoy magnificent views of the Tocorpuri and Sairecabur volcanoes, whose snow-dusted peaks dominate the surrounding landscape. The remainder of the day is at leisure to explore San Pedro de Atacama independently, browse local handicraft shops, or simply relax and enjoy the unique atmosphere of this charming desert village.
